This piece is from an amazing series of "new" patchwork kilims, created from various Anatolian weavings.
These rediscovered weavings are believed to be 50-80 years old and were used as tent and cottage hangings, storage, floor and bed spreads. Many people worked on this project to collect, clean and unstitch the material. The weavings were then seperated into panels or blocks of color. Most of the textiles found were damaged; the undamaged parts were cut into squares and other basic geometric forms. They were arranged in a pattern, backed with two layers of fabric to reinforce, sewn together and ironed. The makers of these patchwork kilims called them "Destan" SAGA.
